The Resume

Potential candidates should realise that every step in the interviewing process is important. The resume should get you the interview. The objective of the interview is to convince the screener to pass you on to the decision-maker, then to convince the decision-maker to offer you the job.

No matter whether you are looking for a contracting or full time position, the competition is fierce. You will need to attract the attention of employers when your resume is in front of their eyes. Your resume needs to speak for itself. It is the only voice that speaks for you until you have the chance to speak for yourself.

Orient your resume specifically for the position for which you are applying. If you're chasing development or technical positions then your resume should display technical and related skills and experience descriptions of each project or contract.

It is a good idea to keep a working copy of your CV on file ready for last minute changes and tracking of different versions. The resume should not overstate your abilities. Many managers are sticklers for candidates knowing everything on their resume (if it's on the resume you had better know it).
